Centro de Apoyo Comunitario was founded by local Latino immigrant women with the hopes to nurture a strong sense of community within Upper Darby’s immigrant population and empower people to help their families, neighbors and friends. Centro de Apoyo Comunitario exists to promote and support the development and well-being of the community with the goal of improving the quality of life of immigrant community members. The organization provides services to the immigrant community such as yearly ITIN clinics in collaboration with the Villanova Tax Clinic and referrals for educational programs, health services, and legal services. Centro de Apoyo Comunitario also organizes social events and celebrations such as International Women’s Day & Mother’s Day. Centro de Apoyo is a member of PICC, their members have participated in many PICC organized events, such as statewide convenings, and many are certified Community Navigators.
