Our Welcoming Schools Mini Series will introduce you to our Welcoming Schools Campaign, Toolkit and 2020 Report in a series of two trainings taking place on Wednesday, April 15 from 3:00-5:00 pm and Wednesday, April 22 from 3:00-5:00 pm.

Plus a potential 45 minute working group session (if there is interest from 4 people from 4 different school districts) on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 3:00-5:00 pm. 

Technology for this workshop: Due to COVID-19 all meetings will be directed using zoom video conference. We recommend you attend using your computer, iPad, smartphone in order to see the content on your screen.  We also recommend you give yourself at least 10 minutes to set up your technology.

4/15/2020 Welcoming Schools Campaign and Toolkit: This session will introduce you to the the rights of immigrant and refugee students in schools in regards to immigration enforcement (ICE). You will learn how to use this toolkit and advocate with your local school district to pass Welcoming Schools Resolutions and policies that will help protect immigrant and refugee families. This is an interactive workshop and you will be broken up into small groups, participate in role playing and debriefing with the group at the end.

After you are done with this workshop you will learn to: 

  • Understand how to use our Welcoming Schools Toolkit for advocacy purposes
  • Have deeper understanding of the rights of immigrant communities in schools regardless of immigration status
  • Advocate locally for Welcoming Schools Policies
  • How to find out about your school board and how to attend regular meetings
