#BlackLivesMatter

Jun 3 2020    PICC Blog

The Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (PICC) stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement. We stand in solidarity with communities and organizations fighting to demand justice, dismantle white supremacy, and end police brutality. Anti-blackness and police brutality have inflicted pain and death on Black communities for generations. As immigrant rights advocates, we know all too well that we don’t all experience justice equally. We know all too well that we are not equally free.

In this moment, amidst the pain, grief, and anger over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and numerous others, we can’t be silent. We must turn to each other, take care of one another, and build collective power together.

We recognize that our fights are inextricably tied, and that our liberation is deeply interconnected. As the staff and Board of Directors of PICC, we will continue to do our part to take down oppressive systems of white supremacy and xenophobia. We will continue to do work across the state to shift the balance of power into the hands of directly impacted communities. Just as we demand #AbolishICE and for an end to ICE raids and immigrant detention, we say #DefundThePolice and demand an end to police brutality of Black communities.
